Favored by the R.A.F.'s most celebrated squadron.
In 1965, the R.A.F. searched for aircraft to replace its aging Hawker Hunters and English Electric Canberras. The Phantom FGR.2 was the perfect solution. It was a fighter first and foremost, but it could be used for ground attacks and reconnaissance missions as well. From 1976-1992, No. 56 Squadron flew modified Phantoms with powerful Rolls-Royce® Spey engines and U.K. MOD Radar systems.
