The 244th Flight Regiment is among the most famous of all WWII-era Japanese fighter units. Flying the Kawasaki Ki-61-I, the unit shot down 73 B-29s and damaged 92. Nine of its pilots were recipients of the Bukosho, Japan's equivalent to the Medal of Honor.
