In the eyes of many WWII fighter pilots, the Yakovlev Yak-3 was the ideal dogfighter, with its small, lightweight design and superb power-to-weight ratio. In fact, the French Air Force's Normandie-Niémen squadron used the Yak-3 to score the last 99 of their 273 Luftwaffe "kills."
